My Soap and Glory Must Haves!

Soap and Glory are definitely one of my favourite 'drug store' brands. I'm not overly keen on their skincare range - they just don't seem to suit my skin, but their body products are so good. I love getting a big stash at Christmas.
One of my all time favourite body scrubs is pulp friction. I would describe it as a creamy exfoliator with a fruity scent - soap and glory's fruitigo fragrance. As its a creamy scrub, its not harsh at all and it lathers really well, leaving super soft skin. Another exfoliator I really like is the sugar crush body scrub. The scent is really summary - lime and almond. The scrub is made with brown sugar and looks good enough to eat. It leaves my skin silky soft but its not to be used on broken/ultra sensitive skin. In other words, don't do what I did and use it on freshly shaved legs - ouch!
The righteous body butter is probably one of soap and glory's most hyped products. A thick and creamy moisturiser, scented with orange, lemon, peach, rose and jasmine. I use this as an intense moisturiser and slather it on. My skin feels really smooth and hydrated when I use this and the tub is massive so it lasts ages!
I've been the heel genius foot cream a lot lately. I refer it to other foot creams as it smells really nice and isn't greasy. I like to use it overnight to give it time to soak in. For a fiver, its a bargain as I definitely notice a difference.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned on here before but I'm a bit of a germaphobe in real life. I carry hand sanitiser everywhere with me. The best one I've ever used is the hand maid gel. I love how it doesn't smell of alcohol like most sanitisers do. It cleans hands, without drying the skin out and its one product I will keep repurchasing.

Mini Essie Haul

Last week, I ordered a few more nail polishes from fragrance direct. These essie shades are such a bargain at £1.99 each. I've been after bikini so teeny for ages so I couldn't pass it up at this price. Little description of the shades I got;

* Off the shoulder - medium pink creme
* Bikini so teeny - cornflower blue creme with subtle silver shimmer
*Capri - hot orange creme

I haven't tested the wear of these yet as I've only just received them but off the swatches, all shades were fully opaque in two coats with no streaking.
There a few other shades at cheap smells but they are slightly more expensive. Although still cheaper than boots!

Are there any essie shades you would recommend?

NYX Smokey Palette

The Nyx smokey palette is another product I managed to track down on ebay - luckily I found a UK seller and paid around £7 which isn't too bad. The smokey palette was released alongside a natural one - basically nyx's version of urban decays smoked and naked palettes.
The smokey palette features six shades - black with silver sparkles, matte black, dark plum, dark navy, gold-beige and white.
I really wanted to like this palette but sadly it just didn't live up to my hopes. Whilst the texture of the shadows feels soft to touch, they are quite dry - the duds being the first four shades (left to right). The beige and white both had decent pigmentation but the other four were really bad and really hard to blend. I tried them damp too and there was no improvement.
This was such a disappointment, I wouldn't recommend it. I think mua and sleek do similar palettes that  perform better. I still want to try other nyx products - I've heard good things about their lip products, I just might avoid some of their palettes in future.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick: Passionate Red

Hot on the heels of several other brand new products for spring comes Max Factor's Colour Elixir Giant Pen Sticks. Officially these aren't released until April but I did some super sleuthing and found mine on ebay  from this seller for £3.99 with free p&p. (they'll retail at £6.99)
I'm not sure why these are called giant because they're really not that big. They make it sound like a mammoth thing you have to carry in both arms haha. They remind me of a cross between clinique chubby sticks and urban decay's lip colour pencils.
Passionate red is a bold red that leans slightly frosty. Hands down, the pen stick is the creamiest lip product I've tried. Its extremely pigmented - you only need one swipe over the lips for opaque colour. The downside to that is that colour transfers really easily, more so than other lip products I use. You also need to sharpen these, which is a bit of a faff. It would be much easier if they twisted upwards. Packaging aside, the lip colour feels weightless and hydrating. My lips are on the dry side right now and this shade felt comfortable on.

There are six shades available - vibrant pink looks really pretty!

What do you think of these? Yay or nay?

Back to Basics: Eye Makeup Brushes!

Since I started blogging, I've invested in a few makeup brushes. I used to just slap it on with my fingers and hope for the best haha but now I've realised with a good brush, I can my makeup look flawless.
I'm a big fan of Sigma brushes - they're affordable and the quality is amazing. One of my favourite Sigma brushes is the E75 angled brow brush. I use this with smashboxs brow tech brunette powder and it makes my brows look natural and thicker. As the brush head is small and angled, I can get a precise application, especially at the arch of the brow.
For eyeshadow application, I really like using the E55 eye shading and E60 large shader brushes. The E60 is good for applying an all over lid colour whilst the E55 is small enough to use in the outer crease. The E70 medium angled shading brush is perfect for blending the crease colour or for highlighting/applying colour under the brow area.
My favourite liner brush ever is the E05 eye liner brush. It applies liner perfectly for even colour - its literally foolproof.
Another good blending brush is the MAC 217 blending brush. This brush is so soft, it blends shadow like a dream. It washes really well and doesn't shed. The sigma E25 blending brush is a good dupe but I think the MAC 217 is slightly softer.
The Real Techniques shading brush is an ideal brush for applying colour to the crease due to its small brush head. I haven't got around to buying the Real Techniques eye brush set yet but it looks good value and I've seen good reviews.
I would definitely recommend all the above brushes. The MAC brush is more expensive than the others but the sigma and real techniques are good value for money. You can 10% off sigma with the code SAVE2013 on the sigma website  but I would also recommend beauty chamber if you're in the UK and don't want to worry about extra import fees.

MAC Shy Girl Lipsick

I don't own many MAC lipsticks. I love the vanilla smell and the shade range but I find them to be on the drying side. That being said Shy Girl is a great wearable shade for everyday.
Shy Girl is a nude peach with a cremesheen finish. I can usually get around 3-4 hours of wear with this lipstick. As I find it drying I like to apply a bit of lip balm underneath as it tends to highlight any dryness on the lips and can apply patchy. I like this shade though as a lot of nudes can make me look washed out but as this leans more to a peachy nude its more flattering!

Let me know your favourites MAC shades - I need to take back some empties to get a freebie!

Primark Summer 2013 Look Book

Eeep summer clothes!maybe the sunshine is finally on its way.
I really like these looks especially the floral print dungaree shorts and the white/yellow dip dye dress.
I'm starting to see a lot of crop tops online at the moment which I like but I'm not I could pull them off. Still they do look pretty, especially with a pair of shorts or maxi skirt!

5 Beauty Products Under £10

I mentioned in the 5 under £5 post (which you can read here) about high street/ aka drugstore gems. There are some brilliant products out there that don't cost the earth. As a continuation of that post I thought I would mention some amazing items that are priced under £10.

1. Witch anti-blemish skin clearing primer - £6.99 (I have seen this on offer for half price before now). I do think this is a really good primer for anyone who suffers from blemishes. Its a light creamy product that soothes the skin whilst helping foundation/your base products to stay put. Whilst I don't think its the best I've used for oil control - I use nip and fab shine fix for my oily t-zone, I use the witch primer when I'm suffering from spots as I find it calms the skin and really helps to clear blemishes up.

2. Revlon nearly naked foundation £8.99. There are a lot of rave reviews out there on this foundation - you can read my review in full here. Its an ultra light foundation that blends seamlessly into the skin, providing weightless coverage. It looks natural and doesn't oxidise. If you have oily skin, you will definitely need to set with a powder but for the price, its one of the better foundations out there.

3. Revlon lip butters £7.99. I did get sucked into the hype when these were released but luckily I really like them. Weightless colour that doesn't dry out the lips - I swatched a few shades here. I know some people do prefer the loreal rouge caresse lipsticks, which are basically their version of these. Whilst I prefer the lip butters, the caresse lipsticks are also a very good product for under a tenner.

4. Essie nail polish £7.99. I think essie are really good quality, though I might have been quite lucky with the shades I've bought. Generally I find they have a good consistency, wear well and there are a good variety of shades available. I usually go to fragrance direct or cheap smells where you can pick them up cheap but they don't tend to have newly released shades.

5. Real techniques brushes from £7.99. Bit of a beauty blogging fail here as I thought the powder brush  I photographed cost £9.99 and not £12.99 but hey ho that what happens when you do don't your research properly. These are really good quality brushes - soft, wash well, don't shed. My favourites would have to be the eye shader which is £7.99 and the blush brush £9.99 - though I think the brush head is slightly too large for the cheeks.

Have you tried any of these products?

Spring Nails: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Is this the nicest nail polish ever? I think so! I love, love, love this shade so much.
A mint green creme with a tiny hint of blue - the formula is perfect. Opaque in two coats. I usually use a clear top coat over it to make it last longer.
I prefer essie to the likes of opi - not just because its cheaper but the quality is better. I've jumped on the bloggers bandwagon and ordered a few shades from fragrance direct for £1.99. A total bargain. I've never seen mint candy apple on there but they usually have some nice shades.

What are your favourite essie shades?

MAC Matchmaster Foundation

MAC matchmaster is a foundation I've been using for a while so I think its about time I shared my thoughts on it.
I use shade 1.0 which is the lightest shade available and I believe equivalent to NC15 in other MAC foundations. Its a perfect match for my skin tone and I am uber pale.
Matchmaster is a light-medium coverage foundation that gives a demi-matte finish and is blendable.
I originally purchased this foundation as I read it was suitable for oily skin, which it is. I would say its suitable for normal - oily skin as it highlights dryness and tends to cling to any dry areas of skin.
The main reason I love this foundation is that it looks natural,is long wearing and controls oil well. I still need to blot but I do with every foundation I use. I've read that MAC foundations tend to break some people out but I've not had this problem with matchmaster.
A special mention for the packaging - it has a pump! hurrah!
I will definitely be repurchasing as it suits my skin and works well for me

Have you tried any MAC foundations?

Dior Blush: Pink in Love

The Christian DiorBlush glowing colour powder blush is a product I've been after for a while. I was ill with flu last month so I decided to order it to give me a feel good boost. 889 Pink in Love contains two shades of pink - the left is a raspberry pink whilst the right side is a lighter petal pink. Swirled together its the perfect pop of mid-strawberry pink.

The blush is super soft to touch, blendable and provides a sheer to buildable colour. The finish is satin with a very subtle shimmer. Its on the pricey side but I am in love with this blush - the texture cant be faulted and its extremely wearable and longlasting. Its become my go to everyday shade. five stars!!

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation is the most recent addition to my makeup bag. I've had quite good luck with Revlon foundations in the past - colorstay is one of my all time favourites and one I repurchase continously so I wanted to see if the nearly naked foundation could live up to my high expectations.
Nearly naked is a lightweight and blendable foundation - I purchased the shade ivory (the same I use in colorstay) which is a pretty much perfect match for my skin tone. I've been applying it with a sigma rounded kabuki brush, which buffs it in nicely and creates a flawless finish.
The consistency of the foundation is thin, it evens out my skintone but extra concealer is needed on any blemishes or redness. I prefer lightweight foundations to heavy ones as I find heavier consistencies tend to break my skin out.
I was a little worried that the foundation might be too dewy for my combination/oily skin but the finish is a 'healthy glowing complexion' that looks bright and radiant. The only downside (apart from the bottle not having a pump) is that my t-zone gets quite shiny after a few hours so I do need to blot more than I would with a foundation such a colorstay. However, it didnt wear off like a lot of foundations or oxidise - my skin still looked fresh by the end of the day.
I can see why a lot of people like this product - its affordable, creates a great base and feels weightless on the skin. Thumbs up from me!!

The Lust List: Spring Fashion

6. Dorothy Perkins Shirt £26

I love spring fashion!Well I say that but I also say it about autumn when all the chunky jumpers hit the stores. Currently I really like the lace dress above from warehouse. I think £50 isn't too bad for them, I'm sure they used to be more expensive!
I love the H&M jacket too!Although I hate their sizing - its so small so you never know if anything will actually fit.

Everyday Makeup #2

I usually keep my makeup fairly basic for everyday wear. Unless its a special occasion or I'm going somewhere fancy. I like to switch up my makeup though throughout the week. For my base I sometimes use the laura mercier primer followed by MAC's matchmaster foundation in 1.0. It a light - medium coverage foundation that stays put throughout the day. I usually apply with the real techniques stippling brush or buffing brush from the core collection which gives the perfect finish. To conceal, I'll apply the lily lolo mineral concealer which covers blemishes and redness. Then I'll buff in a little powder to make my base last longer.

For cheeks, I'll use MAC stunner blush (limited edition)  - a satin finish blush which is gorgeous! I'll also add a little of MAC's extra dimension skinfinish in superb on top for extra glow.

For eyes, I don't always use shadow as sometimes I like to take a break from eye makeup but I'll perhaps use a slick of benefit bad gal mascara on lashes. Finally I'll use a little of MAC shy girl lipstick on lips. Its a really wearable shade but if my lips are feeling dry I'll add a bit of lip balm first as I find MAC lipsticks on the drying side.

Handbag Lust List: Ebay Edition

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

I'm always browsing Ebay for stuff. All of these bag are currently in my watch list.
I'm always surprised when I find things that are so cheap on there and I think all these bags are reasonably priced.
I bought the Alexander Wang rocco inspired bag from ebay ages ago and its still going strong. Its good that ebay have some designer dupes as I could never afford the real deal.

Let me know which bag is your favourite!

Sleek Mardi Gras Lipstick Palette!

I just spyed this little gem on facebook and had to share! How pretty is this lipstick palette! Mega want.
Not sure when this is available but I'm guessing soon! keep your eyes peeled.

I'm a little excited about this collection even though its tiny as I love paramore - hayley is their lead singer!
I'm not a massive fan of orange makeup but I really like the look of the shadow and polish. Lightscapade is a repromote - not sure if its permanent now or not! This collection is only available online, hopefully it will be released in europe!

Product Rave: Garnier Body Ultimate Beauty Oil

£7.99 - currently on offer at feel unique for £6.80

As its getting closer and closer to summer, I'm on a mission to try and get a beach bod! Right now its a total fail - I blame Ben and Jerry's ice cream. So I haven't got round to starting the 30 day shred just yet but there a few products I'm using to try and get my skin looking in good condition. Step forward garnier ultimate beauty oil!
I got the garnier ultimate beauty oil after spying it on feel unique
The beauty oil claims to be five times more concentrated in nutrients than garniers normal body lotion with macadamia, argan, almond and rose oils.
I've only been using this for a few days but already I've noticed a difference - my skin is softer and smoother, more radiant and feels nourished. The oil is lightweight, doesn't feel greasy and smells divine.
If your looking for super soft skin then I highly recommend it!

Dainty Doll Cosmetics

Dainty doll is a brand that I've looked at but just never really considered buying from. The line is by nicola roberts from girls aloud and tailored to paler skinned ladies. Fragrance direct are stocking some of the range super cheap so I purchased a few things. The products above were just £1.99 each which is a huge bargain as they are stocked at boots etc for around £13.50.
Baby love lipstick is a nude pink. Its soft and fairly creamy to apply but I had to swipe it over my lips several times to get the colour to show. Sadly this shade is all wrong for me as it looks like 'concealer lips'.
When I purchased the blushes I didn't realise they were the same shade but in different formulations. My girl and paper roses are a soft baby pink shade. I'm not a big fan of the cream blusher - it feels slightly greasy to touch and the pigmentation was so-so. My girl on the other hand is the real winner of this little haul. It feels soft to touch and well pigmented. I love the shade so its something I can see me wearing often.
There's currently still stock left at fragrance direct but I've also seen the brand discounted on amazon and other places online.

Have you bought any dainty doll?

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine: Pink In Confidence

YSL rouge volupte shines are a recent expansion of the popular rouge volupte lipsticks. I've never been a huge fan of YSL cosmetics. I didn't get on with touche eclat. However, after spying these lippies on a few blogs I decided to have a little splurge.
The packaging is gorgeous - I think it looks more luxurious than the likes of dior and chanel. I bought the shade pink in confidence from debenhams (hello 10% off promo). Pink in confidence is a soft neutral pink with a glossy finish. Its a sheer formula that feels lightweight and hydrating. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the mango scent but that's just my personal taste. Other than that I adore this lipstick. Its very much a my lips but better shade. A few of the lighter shades look similar but I love the look of rouge in danger  - a strawberry red! The spring collection also looks gorgeous so I may be well and truly converted to YSL!

5 beauty products under £5!

Whilst I do like a splurge on certain makeup items, there are some amazing products on the high street. Some of my favourite products are the gems above which are all priced less than £5.

Sleek blushes £4.49 are pigmented, long lasting, with my favourite shade - rose gold, a dupe of nars orgasm blush. Sleek have a variety of shades available so theres something for everyone!I reviewed and swatched rose gold here.

Maybelline Color Tattoo shadows £4.99 are described as a cream/gel shadow that can also be used a liner. I have on and on bronze - I have a lot of love for this shadow as its stays put on my oily lids, doesn't crease and makes a great base for eye makeup. I wrote a comparison post to MAC paints pots here. There are a few new shades for spring (light in purple, timeless black and 24k gold) so look out for them in stores.

Collection lasting perfection concealer £4.19 has huge hype in the blogging world and rightly so. Its a creamy, long lasting concealer that blends easily and doesn't oxidise. It feels much more expensive than it is and could easily rival concealers from high end brands.

Rimmel scandal eyes liner £3.99 is a pigmented, soft, easy to apply liner. They are water and smudge proof and feel gentle when applied. I swatched silver in this post. A huge bargain!

17 mirror shine on lipstick £4.59 are moisturising lipsticks that add glossy colour to the lips. They are non sticky, comfortable to wear and theres a good variety of shades available. Nudist peach is pictured above and swatched in this post along with beehive.

Let me know your favourite products for under £5!

Spring Purchases

Its so much nicer outside now spring is right around the corner. I think nice weather puts everyone in a better mood.
Today I'm sharing a few things I've bought lately (although I didn't buy all the above in one go!)
The mint jumper and coral clutch bag are from H and M. They have some pretty things in at the moment. I nearly bought the bag at xmas but luckily I waited and got it for half price. I'm trying to add more colour to my wardrobe as I usually go for plain shades.
From Amazon I ordered gone girl, you had me at hello and wool. I only received wool today so I'm really looking forward to reading it. I loved you had me at hello - if you like chick lit that isn't cheesy than I really recommend it. Its one of the best books I've read recently. Gone girl is a tough one to get in to. I don't usually read thriller type novels so maybe thats why? I don't know I just lost interest after the second chapter.
Today, I purchased revlon nearly naked foundation and nuxe cleansing gel. I cant wait to try them both. I have high hopes. The St. Moritz self tan was another random amazon purchase. I'm a bit scared about using it to be honest as I'm so pale. I have visions of looking like an oompa loompa.
I also recently bought a rimmel apocalips lip lacquer, although I have no idea what shade it is as I took the sticker off. I like it but they're a bit hyped up now. The dior blush is the shade pink in love. Its the perfect pop of pink! Finally I just got garnier body ultimate beauty oil. I'm hoping for super soft skin for summer.

Let me know what you've been buying recently
